SMEC donate $15,800 towards Rotary Park Upgrade

It has been some time in the planning but the Mission Beach Rotary Park redevelopment project will soon begin.

New facilities have been planned to compliment current Rotary Park facilities and replace some that were lost to Tropical Cyclone Yasi.  Stage One of the Rotary Park redevelopment project will include a large undercover area, an outdoor stage, and a picnic shelter near the skate park.

SMEC Foundation chairman Les Douglas presented Mission Beach Rotary with a $15,800 donation towards this redevelopment project.  The Foundation has made some $40,000 of donations towards cyclone restoration projects in Cardwell, Tully Heads and Mission Beach.

Staff of SMEC Holdings, a multinational engineering and development consultancy, have made these donations towards helping communities impacted by TC Yasi.

“This support from SMEC is a super boost to the Rotary Park redevelopment project that Mission Beach Rotary, Bendigo Bank, and the Cassowary Coast Regional Council have been working towards for some time now.  Rotary Park is a popular place of outdoor recreation for our communities and tourists so Rotary are very excited about the new facilities this project will provide”, President Mission Beach Rotary Chris May said.
