It’s been a big year for Rotary Club of Mission Beach this year with several big projects completed.

SPLASH PAD UPDATE

The Splash Pad is Rotary’s major project which will be funded by the Club and installed at Rotary Park, Wongaling Beach.  It’s imperative to note that Rotary Mission Beach is one of the smallest clubs in District 9550, however, the club is undertaking the biggest project for the District.

The Club is seeking sponsorship, funding, donations and in-kind support to complete this community-focussed project.  There is opportunity for the local community to donate via PayPal through the Rotary Mission Beach website, just click on the link: www.rotarymb.org

This project is part of the cyclone Yasi recovery initiative for Mission Beach and supported by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) and tax Concession Charity (CC) status.

CUTTEN WALKING TRACK INTERPRATIVE SIGNS

Another project Rotary has worked extensively on over the past months is the newly signed and restored Cutten Walking Track at Clump Point.  Cassowary Coast Mayor Bill Shannon cut the ribbon at the head of the trail, assisted by Rotary District 9550 Governor Moorthy Karuna.

The Rotary Club of Mission Beach headed a community collaboration to repair the track, following damage caused by Cyclone Yasi.  With assistance from Mission Beach Community Bank and non-financial support from Mission Beach Business and Tourism, the track was fitted with new signage detailing the history and ecology of the Mission beach Area.

YEAR 7 TRANSITIONS TO HIGH SCHOOL

Year 7 is moving into high schools in 2015 and this year Mission Beach State School Year 6 celebrated their graduation at Millers.  Congratulations go to Georgia Cranstone for being awarded Dux of year 6.

The year 7 class celebrated at the Mission Beach Resort and congratulations go to Zoe Kelly-Verity for being awarded Dux of year 7.  Rotary President Tom Brown and Treasurer Ru Carslake were pleased to present Georgia and Zoe with their prize of $100 cash each.

MEMBERSHIP IS GROWING!

The club recently hosted a “come and see” evening at the Mission Beach State School and we are proud to announce that as a result the club is welcoming 7 new Rotarians, 6 Corporate members and 11 Friends of Rotary.  If you are interested in becoming a member, then please contact Tom Brown on 0437 314 080.

YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAM (YEP)

This year we have welcomed Ania Buhler from Amriswil, Switzerland through our YEP program.  Ania is being hosted by 3 local families in Tully, Tully Heads and Carmoo throughout her exchange.  Ania is fluent in 4 different languages and is a keen sportswoman.

The club is about to farewell Brendan Barrett who will be heading off early in the New year to Switzerland.  Brendan gave an exciting overview of what he can expect to experience throughout his exchange at a recent induction ceremony at the Mission Beach Resort.

INTERACT CLUB CHARTERED

Mission Beach Interact Club is for young people aged between 12 and 18.  The Club has recently been chartered with Eva Blakemore chosen as President and Eve Verity as President elect.

The aims of the Interact Club are to carry out hands-on service to improve the community, make international connections and most of all have FUN!  If you have a child or young adult interested in joining Interact, just send a Facebook request to Interact Mission Beach to join the group.  You’ll be able to see what the Interactor’s are doing and be kept up to date with details of upcoming events.

CHRISTMAS BREAK

December is a busy time for Rotarians and Friends, but the club still managed to make time for a few FUN events.  We recently enjoyed a xmas breakup party at the Mission Beach resort with a special appearance from a jovial Santa delivering Secret Santa pressies to all who attended.

Our Club supported Mission Beach Lions at the annual Village Green Community Christmas Party.  There were plenty of activities, music and stalls and most of all that important visit from Santa… he’s been pretty busy already!  Club volunteers cooked up a hearty Sausage Sizzle for everyone.
